Our Mission
The League of Women Voters of Nevada (LWVNV) promotes political and legislative transparency by improving access to information, fostering and defending voters' rights, and creating a presence that will encourage both political candidates and existing legislators to support voter access and political transparency in Nevada.
LWVNV will be directed by the core tenets of the League of Women Voters (nonpartisanship, diversity, equity, and inclusion), and will uphold those values with both compassion and courage while addressing issues and legislation as a League. Additionally, we are committed to the long-term goals of dismantling the patriarchy and abolishing the electoral college.
LWVNV is a political, nonpartisan, grassroots organization dedicated to inclusivity, empowering voters, defending democracy, and transparency through voter information access, voter rights protection, and fostering candidates' and legislators' support.
Our Vision
We envision a democracy where every person has the desire, the right, the knowledge, and the confidence to participate.
History
Founded in 1920, the League was a merger of the National Council of Women Voters and the National American Women’s Suffrage Association. Referred to as a “mighty political experiment,” it aimed to help newly enfranchised women exercise their right to vote.
Today, the League has expanded our vision of a more inclusive democracy where all Americans can see themselves represented in our government.
Nonpartisanship
The league will not support or oppose any political party or candidate.
To learn more about our nonpartisan stance, read this blog post from former LWVUS CEO Virginia Kase Solomon.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
LWV is an organization fully committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in principle and in practice. DEI is central to the organization’s current and future success in engaging all individuals, households, communities, and policymakers in creating a more perfect democracy.
