International Relations
The League of Women Voters has long championed international cooperation as a path to peace, advocating for collaboration with global organizations like the United Nations. Since its founding post-WWI, the League has supported free trade, aid to developing nations, arms control, and global democracy efforts. Over the decades, we have consistently promoted citizen engagement, human rights, and sustainable development while supporting measures to build international peace and trade balanced with environmental and labor protections.

Trade & Tariffs
The League supports a liberal U.S. trade policy that reduces trade barriers to promote international cooperation, democratic values, and economic prosperity, benefiting consumers while prioritizing the public interest over special interests.
United Nations
The League supports a strong, effective United Nations and endorses the full and active participation of the United States in the UN system.
Arms Control
The League supports U.S. leadership in multilateral arms-control negotiations aimed at reducing war risks, preventing the advancement of nuclear weapons, and promoting global stability through the ultimate goal of nuclear disarmament.
Military Policy and Defense Spending
The League advocates for U.S. foreign policy to prioritize nonmilitary strategies like diplomacy and multilateral cooperation to protect national interests, viewing military force as a last resort reserved for homeland defense, with nuclear weapons solely for deterring nuclear attacks until global disarmament is achieved.
Developing Nations
The League supports U.S. policies in developing countries that prioritize reducing conflict, promoting sustainable resource management, protecting human rights, and fostering economic growth, advocating for development assistance over military involvement and opposing geopolitical competition in these regions.
